Default question on game mechanics

Quote:
Hi,

I have a question and I'm bad at math. I hope this makes sense.

I was going to ask a bunch of questions, but I think I've figured out most of the answers.

So does every point of weapon mastery over 12 give 2 armour penetration? (It's sort of virtual armour penetration, because it doesn't lower the armour, because that would change the comparison.) Is that right? And every point below 12 gives 5 (or -5) armour penetration?

Or do higher level attributes get 5 armour penetration, and then that is adjusted down somehow? I don't think that's right.

Critical Hits

Every time you strike a foe with a weapon of any sort you have a chance of landing a critical hit. Each critical hit strikes for maximum damage, with the additional bonus of hitting as though your weapon attribute were four levels higher. I'd be breaking form if I didn't list an equation, so here you go:

[Effective Damage] = [Max Weapon Damage] × 2(( 5 × [Attribute Level] - 40 ) / 40)

This translates into each critical strike dealing 141% of your maximum weapon damage, every time. Every critical hit with a customized top (6-28) axe and a level 12 Axe Mastery will deal:

28 × 1.20 × 2(( 5 × 12 - 40 ) / 40) = 47.5 damage per critical
But I don't understand this. Is this saying that those 4 extra points of weapon mastery get the full 9% extra damage, not 2%? So for example, a critical from an axe would do 47.5 x 115% damage? Or does a critical at 16 axe do way less damage than one at 9 axe?

Now that I think of it, so many skills give you armour penetration, how does that work with 16 weapon mastery?

Is the damage penalty from 12-16 mastery hard and fixed on the attacking character? So if I attacked a warrior or monster with 100 armour, I would do 115%/2 of my normal damage? And if I attacked something with 20 armour, I would do 230% damage (plus critical)? Those last 4 points don't scale in the normal way?
Those are my questions. Tell me if I screwed anything up.

Only Strength gives penetration and then only when using a skill. Weapon attributes affect the amount of damage done and the chance for a critical, with attribute = 12 providing the damage range of the weapon, less dealing less than that listed, and over 12 dealing more than listed. This all assumes that the weapon's requirement is met.

I know that's not true.

As far as attributes, only Strength gives armor penetration. There are skills (penetrating blow, etc) and weapons (sundering, hornbow) that do as well.
